XL Group’s Global Specialty insurance business unit today announced that David Edward has returned to the business on a consultancy basis as an Underwriting Development Advisor.
Mr. Edward was originally employed at Brockbank Syndicate Management, which became part of the XL Group in 1998. Between 1992 and 2000 he held a number of senior roles on XL London Market’s management team. Later in 2000 he left XL Group to become a founding partner and Main Board Director of Ascot Underwriting Ltd. On leaving Ascot in July 2008, Mr. Edward pursued other interests including investing in and advising startup companies as well as property development. In recent years Mr. Edward has held a number of non-Executive Director positions.
In his new role as Underwriting Development Advisor to the Global Specialty Leadership at XL Group, Mr. Edward will support the Team in setting strategy, assessing underwriting performance and maximising development opportunities.
The last 18 months have seen XL Group’s Global Specialty business expand its capabilities in terms of products and geography:
Lee Meyrick, who heads Global Marine and Offshore Energy, has made some significant and senior hires, strengthening the Group’s marine capability particularly in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Stephen Ashwell has established the Crisis Management unit with hubs in London, Singapore and New York, providing cover for: war, terrorism and political violence, kidnap & ransom, and product recall.
The Political Risk & Trade Credit unit headed by Richard Maxwell has developed underwriting hubs in the US, UK and Singapore and launched Trade Receivables insurance coverage.
