XL Group Announces Promotion Of Alexander Hanks To Reinsurance Chief Actuary In Latin America

Hamilton, Bermuda – April 24, 2012 - XL Group plc's (NYSE: XL) ("XL") reinsurance operations today announced the appointment of Alexander Hanks to Chief Actuary of XL's Latin America reinsurance operations, pending approval by FINMA, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority.

Mr. Hanks, who is based in Bogota, Colombia, will report to XL Re Latin America Ltd President and Chief Operating Officer Philippe Rochaix and XL's Chief Actuary for Reinsurance global operations Jean-Marc Wassen. Mr. Hanks will be responsible for managing XL's Latin America reinsurance actuarial team and reinforcing the integration of actuarial work within underwriting in local markets to reinforce XL's tailor-made underwriting approach.

Prior to his new appointment, Mr. Hanks was Pricing Actuary for XL's Bogota reinsurance operations. During his career with XL, he has held a variety of modelling and actuarial roles within XL's holding company and reinsurance operations.

Commenting on Mr. Hanks' promotion, Mr. Rochaix said: "Since joining XL in 2005, Alex has consistently contributed to developing more robust internal modelling and pricing tools to help us better serve our clients. I look forward to working more closely with him as XL focuses on strengthening its position as a key reinsurer in the region."
