XL’s Insurance Team Grows in Toronto with Three Appointments

 — TORONTO, December 14, 2011 – XL Group plc’s (“XL”) (NYSE: XL) presence is growing in Toronto with new additions to its North America Property & Casualty insurance team. Colleagues joining XL’s Canadian Operations include Betty Bingler as Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Mélissa Plaxton as Senior Underwriter for Excess Casualty, and Martina Perdue as Environmental Underwriter.
Commenting on the appointments, Cindy Guyatt, Chief Agent and Country Manager for XL’s Canadian operations, said, “Experience and expertise fuel our ability to help our clients with diverse and complicated business risks. Betty, Mélissa and Martina bring diverse industry knowledge and hands-on experience to a strong pool of talent. As we continue to build our business and our product lines here in Canada, we’re pleased to attract such industry talent who I know our brokers and clients will find to be valuable resources in their risk management planning.”

Ms. Bingler joins XL to add additional bandwidth to XL’s Sales and Marketing team, working with Graham Addington, Vice President of Sales & Marketing. They will be developing countrywide marketing and distribution strategies for XL’s diverse product offerings. She joins XL from ACE where she served as Vice President of Strategic Marketing. Prior to her most recent position with ACE, Ms. Bingler was Vice President of Strategic Operations and Business Development for Liberty International Underwriters. She also brings considerable additional brokerage marketing experience having worked with Willis Canada, AON and Marsh Canada.

As Senior Underwriter, Excess Casualty, Ms. Plaxton will concentrate on developing pricing and coverage alternatives to meet clients’ needs in today’s very competitive marketplace. She joins XL from GCAN Insurance Company where she managed a book of property and casualty business with responsibilities in Toronto, Montreal & Calgary. Ms. Plaxton has 10+ years of underwriting experience with a focus on mid-market and larger corporate risks with national & regional brokerages. Her insurance career also includes tenure with Chubb Insurance Company of Canada and Ingle Life & Health.

Ms. Perdue’s expertise and experience brings technical competency to help XL understand and provide solutions to address clients’ environmental risks. Prior to joining XL, Ms. Perdue worked in the public sector as an Environmental Specialist with Canada’s Technical Standards and Safety Authority focusing on regulatory compliance; site assessment and remediation oversight; and various licensing/permitting related projects. She also previously worked as an environmental consultant where her scope of duties included environmental project management; completion and oversight of Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments and remedial projects; and development of remedial action plans for clients within a variety of industries. Ms. Perdue holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Trent University and a post-Graduate certificate in Environmental Management and Assessment from Niagara College. She is also a certified Applied Science Technologist and a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
