XL Insurance appoints Cristiana Báez-Safa Chief Underwriting Officer, Professional Lines Commercial Risk

 — London – January 27, 2011 - XL Insurance, the global insurance operations of XL Group plc (NYSE: XL), today announced the appointment of Cristiana Báez-Safa as Chief Underwriting Officer Professional Lines for its Commercial Risk business outside of North America. She is based in Paris and reports to William Wharton, Chief Underwriting Officer, Professional Lines International.

Ms. Báez-Safa has more than 25 years of experience in financial lines insurance, having held various regional and global financial lines management positions at AIG, Marsh and, most recently, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty. Prior to that, she practiced law with various law firms in the US, France and the United Arab Emirates, working on management and professional liability, insurance and claims matters.

Mr. Wharton said: “Cris is an experienced Professional Lines underwriter who is well respected by brokers and clients. She has a proven track record of successfully building an international insurance book. Under her leadership we will further strengthen our capabilities in the growing and dynamic Commercial Risk market.”

Cristiana Báez-Safa added: “I am excited to join XL Insurance’s team of talented underwriters. Ms. Báez-Safa holds a Juris Doctor Degree from St. John’s University and a Masters Degree in International Law (LLM) from Georgetown University and is a member of the New York State and International Bar Associations.
