XL Group launches new Construction product and strengthens local underwriting team in France

 —

XL Group’s new “Construction Protection Intégrale“ product goes beyond the usual “Dommages ouvrage” (DO) coverage offered in the market, providing comprehensive insurance coverage during the construction period combining the following coverages in one policy: Construction All Risks (CAR), Third Party Liability (TPL), Advanced Loss of Profit (ALOP) and Contractors' Plant & Machinery (CPM). In addition, the policy covers building owners against material damage due to inherent defects for 10 years after building completion in accordance with French law.

To support this new product offering and provide greater local expertise, XL Group additionally announced the appointments of two new underwriters in the French construction team - Christiane Gbenou O’Connor and Gaetan Gueho - both reporting to Olivier Antiphon, Underwriting Manager Construction, France.

Max Benz, Underwriting Manager Construction, International Property, said: “We believe that over time investments in infrastructure in France will further grow. To be ready for this, we’ve created the single policy ‘Construction Protection Intégrale’ and enhanced our underwriting process to offer faster response times. The addition of industry talent like Christiane and Gaetan lets us also better serve local clients with our specialised products in the domestic market and globally.”

Kadidja Sinz, Country Manager of XL Group’s insurance operation in France, added: “Typically, clients in France had to buy several separate policies to get the main construction covers, but with our new ‘Construction Protection Intégrale’ product we’ve raised the level of client service, covering these needs into one single integrated policy. We’re also pleased to have Christiane and Gaetan join our team and to play a key role in growing our market share on the domestic construction business.”

Christiane Gbenou O’Connor joins XL Group as Underwriter, Construction – France, effective immediately. In her new role, she will be primarily responsible for writing XL Group’s new “Construction Protection Intégrale” product. Mrs. Gbenou O’Connor joins from QBE Group where she held the position of a claims lawyer. In previous roles, she liaised with senior leadership to support claims from large groups of construction companies at Marsh France.

Gaetan Gueho will strengthen the local team in Paris as Underwriter, Construction – France, starting on 6th December. He will join XL Group from Marsh France where he was Client Advisor Technical Risks for international complex construction projects. Before that, Mr. Gueho worked for General Electric as Commercial Manager for gas turbine power plants. He will support XL Group’s existing business for complex construction risks in France and abroad.
